Make Your Own Kind of Music
The Mamas & The Papas' fabulous 60s sunshine pop song, recently recorded by Paloma Faith (2018). An accessible arrangement in three parts (SAB), suitable for younger choirs ... and indeed for those who remember the original!
The altos get plenty of limelight, and there's lots of scope for solos. You can build up the chorus quickly, and have them singing in three parts within five minutes. The arrangement ends with an a cappella chorus that will have audiences singing along and feeling the flower power!
This arrangement is available from Sing Up (subscription required).

Molly Malone
An arrangement of this classic folksong for Cambiata choir. It tells the story of a pretty Irish girl who sells fish on the streets. After dying from a fever, Molly now haunts the streets of Dublin as a ghostly fishmonger, crying "Alive, alive-oh!" Molly Malone is published by OUP, in the Emerging Voices series, and is available now.
Cambiata refers to boys' changing voices, specifically between the ages of 11 and 16. There is relatively little repertoire available which is both appealing and accessible to cambiata singers.
A two-part arrangement for cambiata voices (and optional cambiata solo), with emerging baritones and piano accompaniment, the two parts take turns to sing the tune, alternating between melody and simple harmony part.

The Boneyard Rap
A setting of Wes Magee's spooky poem. A fun poem, whose real magic is in the way the poet establishes the mood - evocative vocabulary, creating chilling sound effects.
...elbow bones clink
and backbones snap,
shoulder bones chink
and toe bones tap,
when you're doing the rhythm
of the boneyard rap.
It is important when reading this poem (and singing this setting) to enunciate clear, crisp consonants. The bluesy harmonies and syncopated rhythms should give the song drive and drama.
Click here to read the poem and hear Wes recite it.
The premiere of Boneyard Rap was performed by the forty children of the ABCD Honour Choir in June 2014, under the baton of Bob Chilcott, with Wes Magee in the audience.
